On plant growing experiments
and the usual stuff
I like doing experiments once in a while. They're fun.
A couple of weeks ago, a co-worker was selling some little gel balls that
grew in the water. They became quite the sensation in the floor. As for me,
besides filling a Ramune bottle with the things, I decided to try something
else. From the engrish in the package it seems that they can be used for plants
(and in fact, I've seen them being used for small bamboo plants), so I decided
to actually try and grow a plant in them.
The experiment failed. I planted a couple of beans, and the root was growing
along nicely and it seemed to be getting used to the cold air conditioner, when
I had the bright idea to leave them next to the window over the weekend. It
happened to be a particularly hot and sunny day, so the temperature near the
window must have risen horribly. Most of the water evaporated and I basically
ended up with bean soup.
But that won't stop me. As I write this, I'm preparing another batch of gel
balls to plant more beans. The difference is that they'll stay at home on my
bookshelf.
About a month ago I also planted a couple of popcorn kernels in a large pot
in the garden. They're growing along nicely. I've done this before, so I know
that the resulting corn cobs are small and can't be used for popping. But maybe
they can be eaten in some way... maybe roasted.
So the 13th volume of the Kino no Tabi light novel series has been
released. In moonrunes, in the Land of the Rising Gundam. Damn you, Tokyopop for
the changes you did in the first volume that had further publishing stopped
(Tokyopop says that's not the case, but what other reason could have prompted
ASCII Media Works to tell Tokyopop to stop publication for the time being?).
On the plushie front, Lambo and Chrome are almost done. I was also asked for
a Hibari and a Tuxedo Mask. Also started working on my brother's Master Chief.
Steve is on hold for the time being (I think I'll change his hair a bit). I'll
look for a higher quality red felt in NY for a co-worker's Spiderman. I still
have to add the text on OC's shirt. I should start making Elijah ver. 2... and
I'm out of flesh-colored felt, which I hate because I usually keep a lot of it
in stock, so I have the pieces for Hibari's head (face already painted), but not
his body, since the body I have made is for Tuxedo Mask (I still wonder how I'll
make his tophat).
I won't be able to buy until next weekend.
I the meantime, photo of the Vongola progress.

Chrome's face and
body (to bad the details on her blouse can't be seen in the photo), Hibari's
face and Lambo's face and body.
On other real world news. An opportunity that I though I lost 13 years ago
has opened it's doors again, and I'll be damned if I let a stupid, unfounded
fear make me loose it again. Things like these rarely show themselves twice.
This week's Psyren. Kagetora and Lan search for Miroku's records (not
that they actually find anything because they have all been destroyed), while
Haruhiko walks around. Junas is burning up papers and calls Miroku to inform him
of their arrival, but Miroku reminds him that he should be looking for the
person with the power of "creation". Two volunteer workers complain to Junas,
and Junas almost kills them. In the meantime Haruhiko sees a very young Caprico,
tells Kagetora and Lan, and Lan, because of his little sister complex decides to
go after her. Turns out Caprico can make her drawings come to life (actually
explains a lot about the shape of the creatures in Psyren). It ends up with
Junas killing the volunteers. So maybe a fight will break out.
This week's Reborn. Hibari defeats Daisy by restraining him with
several handcuffs and crushing him. Reborn becomes suspicious of Kawahira, but
Kawahira leaves, saying he has to go on a trip. And Byakuran consults with his
parallel selfs (wings and a light coccoon!) on the whereabouts of Tsuna and co.
Goku vs Kikyo rematch! Yay!
On Nuramago, I hope Gyuuki joins Rikou for the Kyoto raid. Rikou could
benefit from the knowledge of someone who was on the previous battle against
Hagoromo Gitsune.
Beans have been planted in the gel balls. Let's hope for the best.
